Edward Cutler
Edward Cutler is a dedicated and highly respected funeral director whose vocation began at a remarkably young age. Born in Sutton Coldfield, Edward was just 13 when he served as a pallbearer at his great uncle’s funeral — a formative experience that left him reflecting on how funerals could be made more personal and meaningful.
At 16, he completed work experience with the Co-operative Funeral Service in Sutton Coldfield, which solidified his commitment to the profession. By 17, he had secured full-time employment with their Rugeley branch and quickly advanced from Funeral Operative to Funeral Director.
At only 19, Edward opened his first independent funeral home in Sutton Coldfield, later expanding into Lichfield and Kingstanding. In 2013, the family business was sold to a large corporate firm, but Edward remained committed to independent, values-driven service. Between 2014 and 2016, he launched new funeral homes across the West Midlands — including in Wolverhampton, Walsall, Birmingham, and Cannock — and in 2016, acquired a well-established firm in Barton-under-Needwood.
In 2018, Edward sold the business to another independent family-run firm and pivoted to a new venture specialising in international repatriation, arranging the return of deceased individuals from the UK to destinations worldwide. One of Edward’s most notable professional moments came in 2019, when he was appointed by the Vietnamese Embassy to handle the repatriation of 39 deceased nationals following a tragedy in Essex — a task that required immense sensitivity and professionalism.
With a reputation for compassion, integrity, and excellence, Edward continues to serve families with the same care and commitment that first inspired his career.
Inception of Dormer Cottage Funeral Home

After years of serving families through various locations across the West Midlands and building a respected reputation in both local and international funeral care, Nikki and her partner Edward envisioned a more personal, community-rooted way of delivering funeral services. In 2022, they took a significant step toward that vision by purchasing Dormer Cottage — a peaceful, characterful property set in the countryside near Tamworth.
Recognising the potential to offer families a more intimate and compassionate experience in a non-traditional setting, Edward and Nikki applied for planning permission to convert part of their home into a funeral facility. Their aim was to create a quiet, respectful space where families could feel comforted and cared for throughout the funeral process.
Planning permission was granted, and work began to sensitively adapt the property. The project included the construction of an on-site mortuary, a serene chapel of rest, and a comfortable meeting room where arrangements could be made in a calm and supportive environment.
In 2025, Dormer Cottage Funeral Home officially opened its doors. With a warm, home-based approach and a deep commitment to dignity, privacy, and professionalism, Edward and Nikki now serve bereaved families in Tamworth and the surrounding areas — offering them a place where they are truly seen, heard, and supported.
